Check out our latest absolutely stunning rapid little peppermint cream badger of a splitty, she really is something else, A true credit to its previous owner
This is how the journey started out back in 2002, This beauty of a van arrived in the country via the Split screen van centre, she was registered in 1964 and all it needed was a battery shelf and some patches in odd places on the floors. Its still all the same metal, not been touched welding wise since. It was restored over a number of years, bit by bit, with disk brakes up front, a servo, rebuilt steering box, big engine, and gearbox rebuild along the way.
The entire interior and wiring was stripped out- the entire interior was dynomat-ed, heat insulated and rebuilt with everything brand new, no expense spared. Correct tMI door cards and trim, fridge, sink, split charger, full Starlight campers interior etc etc Since then it really hasn’t gone too far thanks to lockdown!
What an Engine this is its a 2270cc type 4 and has been built for a long time, but calmed down from its original spec by installing a mild cam, then over £3000 spent with GAC adding efi. DTA setup with Jenvy throttle bodies etc. The engine is type4 based with DTM cooling, 78.4mm stroker crank (genuine VW welded, sound, counter balanced etc). Porsche 2 litre heads re worked by GAC, 98mm KB pistons etc. Gearbox rebuild by CogBox as the engine took its toll on a stock box. Box now has taller ratios, welded gears etc, its about 3000 rpm at 70 mph. Van also fitted with a bay window fuel tank to improve range. This engine is great on fuel unless you “enjoy” it, There is an under- slung LPG tank to feed the cooker and heater. The heater is an underslung model which feeds into the front heating ducts so you can have warm feet and de misted screens not matter whether you are driving or camping.. Proper welded in rear lap belt mounts, plus 3rd mounting point for 3 point belts added in the front pillars (behind the white trim) Electrics whilst based on a standard brand new loom have additional relays for headlights and brake servo pump, plus all main lines fused to avoid and future issues. Split charge relay and leisure battery fitted too,
You can run the fridge for about 2 days on the leisure battery without needing to use the electric hook up (also fitted). Rear end is Creative IRS, early bay arms, late bay hubs / breaks with Creative wide 5 drums. Front disks are CSP so fully TUV approved.
