1973 Norton 850 Commando.
Oh yes its time.. yes Aspire fans time for another classic motorcycle to keep you badgers excited as we take a trip to Norton this week in the shape of the legendary Commando 850.
Its hard to imagine this Beautiful Norton Commando is almost 50 yrs old.. and boy does it present well in the modern world of new age bikes. The Norton Commando is quite simply a classic motorcycle that would excite any biker young or old and turned a number of heads on our little photoshoot from admirers on route. From the moment you climb aboard this fabulous British motorcycle it feels a little bit special as you turn on each fuel tap, bring the kick start up to top dead centre and a swift kick she fires into life on the first kick and a quick rev of the throttle and what a rewarding sound listening to those twin reverse megaphone pipes coming on song.
The Commando might be classic at near 50 yrs old but its no slouch on the road, the right sided gear shifter presenting a bit of focus to master but you soon get to grips with it and just adds to the character. This Norton was gently restored by its previous owner some five years ago having sourced the bike in the US. It might offend the purists a little with its Akront rims and modern paint with its grey and black colour scheme but we think it’s a stunning looking machine none the less.
All matching numbers and mechanically sound riding extremely well having been rebuilt a few years back and its been ridden well since attending a good few shows and classic rides. Rebuilt with many new parts thanks to Andover Norton and keeping original where possible. Fitted with a 34mm Mikuni carburettor , belt drive, new seat , powder coated frame and new bushes and upgrades to the engine with new pistons ( +40) , repro Smith clocks, period jap switch gear, Bowyer Ignition, External oil filter and as you’d expect all MOT’d and ready for one new owner to enjoy and cherish.
Grab yourself a fistful of early badgers to save on the regular ticket price before selling out and don’t forget this gets you in the early draw to maybe win a few more.
Good luck !
